The Motherland

Due to logistics revolving around my inability to ride my motorcycle to work for a couple more days, I chose to go surf Venice Pier this morning since it would be about 5 miles closer to work after a session. I really should've researched the tide situation before making that decision though.

As I drove down Vista Del Mar there were definitely some peaks working all up and down that stretch. I had a backup plan to pull over and surf one of them if it merited it. It merited it. However I figured that, if these shitty peaks were working, Venice would be working. And so I kept going.

This is only the second time I've been back to the Pier in the two years that have passed since moving to El Segundo. Once I caught up to where my old route used to be on Lincoln it was almost as if I'd never left. It was just way too familiar.

Anyway...I should've pulled over near Dockweiler and hit it up there. The Pier just wasn't working on the very low tide. I ended up sitting it out, grabbing some coffee and playing with my iPhone. The morning would not have been complete without the requisite stink-eye from the Vocal Local. Yes, even drinking coffee at the Pier is frowned upon.
