Off Topic - 20 Things About Whiffleboy

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with surfing but it's my blog, I'm bored and...well...I'm bored.

Essential Whiffleboy:

  1. My [now deceased] Southern accent used to be so thick that my classmates in rural Louisiana made fun of it.
  2. I was infactuated with my wife 8 years before we got married. She wanted nothing to do with me at the time.
  3. I used to be an undercover operative for a private investigating firm. Think 21 Jump Street sans guns and badges.
  4. I've worked at a winery.
  5. I've had long blue hair.
  6. At one time in my life I could refer to Jennifer Aniston as a friend.
  7. I wrote copy for movie trailers for a while. You know, those "In a world..." scripts the guys with the cool voices read.
  8. I've had dinner with Van Halen (sadly, the Sammy era).
  9. My wife and I are amateur wine snobs. Pre -Sideways, mind you.
  10. I've had a video on MTV.
  11. I still ride a bmx bike sometimes.
  12. I'm a pretty good poker player.
  13. My wife and daughters all have names that end in "uh" (the sound, not the letters).
  14. My girls share the same birthday - 5 years apart.
  15. I went to 4 highschools in 4 different states.
  16. I was the first long-haired guy in a Bud Light commercial. It never aired.
  17. I was once arrested for not returning a video tape rental of "Tootsie".
  18. At one point in my life an ambulance was my main mode of transportation.
  19. My old band played 20 shows with the Ramones. That was cool.
  20. I once went to lunch at a job and never came back.

What was the name of your banda? Let me guess Winger?

LMAO! I had blue hair, not the teased feathered stuff. Although Kip was quite the looker.

We were the post-Nirvana horseshit stuff.

You'd have been really cool if you had hung out with Van Halen during the Gary Cherone era.

Whiffleboy said...

Cooler than them at that point.

Very interesting 20, Whiffleboy.

I don't understand very much of it, but then I'm just a sprat. I thought you were cool just cause you surfed and rode a Harley. I guess it goes way beyond even that, huh? :)

Hey! I LOVED the Sanny era! (never could stand David Lee Roth-voice or personality) I liked the idea of the Gary Cherone era, but never heard any of that stuff.

Then again, I listened to deadly mellow music in high school, and was starting to branch out during the Sammy era (even then, I didn't like Roth).

A lot of tooting of your own horn but good stuff....Did you happen to have a sweet mullet with that southern accent? Always thought Sammy Hagar was a cooler person (so it seemed) than David Lee....the best replacement lead singer they could have found really...

I've had mullet AND a perm - but not at the same time, mind you. That's one of the seven deadly sins there.

But did you have a cut off nit shirt with no sleeves along with that mullet. that would have been sweet!

Knit I mean..Not nit...

Hi there -- sorry I'm posting this right here (couldn't find your e-mail address).

I have been deeply inspired by your blog and now have started to write my own. I would be happy to have a few regular readers and therefore ask you if we could do a "link exchange"?

Please let me know whether you are interested. I live in Switzerland and am excited to find out if I can join the English speaking bloggers' community.

Best,

Simon

I was going through my CDs and found your Camp Grenada disc. I can't find a wikipedia entry for your band. Did you make any other CDs? Camp Grenada was bad ass, it didn't have a single track to skip. How come you don't make music anymore?

Did you ever do tours in Ohio?

All the best,
